REALME X7 INTRODUCTION
The X7 series is Realme’s first launch of 2021, and it’s the company’s latest smartphone lineup. In addition, the Realme X7 features a Super AMOLED display, a lightweight body, and fast 50W charging. A 5G-capable chipset, MediaTek Dimensity 800U, runs the phone. Processor power and camera performance can compete with more expensive devices. GPU and charging speed could be improved.
BODY & DESIGN
With its polished polycarbonate back and matte-like finish, the Realme X7 offers the next best thing to a glass design. The color scheme on the X7 is inspired by outer space, and Realme gloats at it. There is no doubt that Realme X7 is smooth, and its AG shower coating adds a pleasant touch to its appearance. The phone is relatively light to hand with a weight of 176g and a thickness of 8.1mm. This device is easy to grasp due to its narrow frame and gently sloping edges. The package includes a clear silicone case to protect the device from damage.
At the top left is a housing for a trio of cameras arranged vertically alongside the flash module. You’ll find a tactile volume rocker on the phone’s left side. An adapter for 3.5mm to Type-C is included in the box of the Realme X7. The USB-C port, speaker grille, and dual SIM card slot are on the bottom of the device. The X7 has no official IP rating, but the company says its ports are silicone-sealed, making it splash-proof.
REALME X7 DISPLAY
This phone has a 6.4-inch diagonal Super AMOLED screen with FHD+ resolution, measuring 6.4 inches diagonally. Since the X7 is significantly more expensive, it can only support 60Hz refresh rates. Regarding visuals, there is little difference between Realme 7 Pro and Realme X7. Quite color-accurate, X7 panels are bright and punchy. The OLED display produces deep blacks and minimal color shifting as you move from one viewing angle to another.
An equally trimmed bezel surrounds the panel. It covers a minuscule area on the top left. Realme X7 does not offer HDR certification but supports WideVine L1 for OTT viewing. As well as being responsive, the panel also has a 180Hz sampling rate for touch. With 600 units of peak brightness, the display is acceptable.
REALME X7 CAMERA
Realme X7 features a triple-camera system topped by a 64MP primary lens, which differs from the Realme X7 Pro. Sony’s IMX686 sensor is found on the latter, while Samsung’s ISOCELL GW2 is on the former. On the front is a 16MP selfie camera with a punch-hole, and on the back are 8MP ultra-wide and 2MP macro sensors. Pixel-binned photos taken with this lens provide good clarity and detail. While the sensor’s dynamic range isn’t extensive, it handles exposures well. More details can be captured in the UHD 64MP mode. In portrait mode, computational algorithms separate the background from the subject. This 2MP macro sensor, with its 4 cm focal length, captures color-accurate shots but lacks detail.
Video recording in 4K is supported by Realme X7, but only at 30fps. It is possible to record 1080p at 60 frames per second, however. Super slow motion can be captured at 240fps at 720p at the maximum frame rate. Despite its small f/2.5 aperture, the front selfie camera captures detailed selfies rich in features and boasts accurate skin tones.
HARDWARE, SOFTWARE & PERFORMANCE
MediaTek’s Dimensity 800U SoC on the Realme X7 is a 7nm-based SoC that supports 5G. Graphics quality is limited to Medium, and the frame rate is capped at High. Despite its in-display fingerprint sensor and face authentication, 5G support cannot make the X7 the best smartphone.
As long as you have good LTE/HSPA coverage, you can get the fast and smooth speeds you are used to and the quality of the microphone and earpiece. Unlike most competitors, the Realme X7 ships with Android 10 instead of Android 11. RealmeUI skin has been changed to be more stock Android-like, but bloatware is still a problem.
SOUND
Using compatible headphones or earphones, you can enhance your listening experience with Hi-Res audio certification. The single bottom-firing speaker provides a lot of depth and clarity.
BATTERY
The Realme X7 comes with a 4,300mAh battery that won’t last longer than a day. The 50W SuperDart charging solution powered the battery and offered superfast charging speeds. If your smartphone is compatible with Realme, a 65W charger is included. A full charge takes about 50 minutes on the X7, as expected. The device recharges 15 percent in six minutes, 50% in 19 minutes, and a full charge takes about 50 minutes on the X7. As with most Realme handsets, the Dimension 800U’s power efficiency contributes to its battery efficiency when the phone’s screen is off or in sleep mode.
OUR OPINION
As a result of what the Realme X7 offers, it is a good deal. The new MediaTek Dimensity 800U offers a great deal in terms of performance and power efficiency. The X7 hasn’t been optimized for GPU but has a decent camera. In 2021, a mid-range smartphone would come with Android 11, which neither of the X7 phones offers. Although Realme will push out an update soon, it might be a factor to remember before you buy the X7. Also, the Realme X7 charges at 50W rather than 65W, which is significantly slower.
