Design & Build Quality

The Infinix S5 stands out because it is one of the best at this price with a 6.6-inch punch-hole display. The whole body is made of plastic, and the back has a shiny finish that makes it easy to get fingerprints on it. The Infinix S5 comes in three colors: Quetzal Cyan, Violet, and Nebula Black. The “feather” pattern on the back looks nice and looks like the back is made of glass.

The back has a different texture than the rest of the phone, and the fingerprint reader is easy to reach. On the left side of the Infinix S5 is a slot for two Nano-SIM cards and another for a microSD card. The home and volume rockers are on the other side of the phone, and the design and feel are good. On the bottom, we can find a place to plug in headphones, a speaker, and a Micro-USB port.

The screen is a big 6.6-inch IPS LCD with a 20:9 aspect ratio but the mobile support only HD+ resolution. Icons and text look fine from a normal viewing distance, but movies aren’t very clear.

The device screen is bright, and the colors are well-saturated, you just miss the lack of an ambient light sensor. This means that this phone doesn’t have an Auto brightness setting. The camera hole doesn’t stand out much, and the edges around the screen are thin, except for the chin at the bottom.

The Mediatek Helio P22 Octa-core CPU that runs the Infinix S5 runs at 2.0GHz and has eight cores. The MediaTek chip held up well when it was used every day. The device also worked well when I scrolled through social media, watched movies, and used it normally.

Android 9 Pie is getting old and is still on the Infinix S5. This operating system is a skinned form of Android 9 Pie, on top of which Infinix put its XOS 5.5.2 Cheetah. This XOS build has many features that could be discussed in a whole other post. And that’s exactly how I’d describe XOS 5 Cheetah: it has many features. Some of the good features of the device are WhatsApp Mode, Social Turbo, Smart Panel, Action & Gestures, Game Mode, and Bike Mode.

Camera

The main camera on the Infinix S5 has 16 megapixels, an f/1.8 lens, and PDAF. The next camera is a 5-megapixel ultra-wide angle camera that can also take shots from very close up. There is a 2-megapixel depth sensor for capture in portrait mode, and Infinix says the fourth lens is a low-light sensor, but they have yet to say how many pixels it has. We don’t know how much this last sensor matters because covering it with a finger didn’t change the result.

The Infinix S5 has a 32-megapixel selfie camera on the front, which takes photos with good clarity. When there wasn’t much light, the picture wasn’t very good. There was grain, and the features needed to be clearer. Both the main and wide-angle cameras can shoot videos with a quality of up to 1080p. There’s no automatic stabilization, so the footage was shaky when we moved.

Media & Connectivity

The sound on the Infinix S5 is very good. It has a 3.5mm ear jack and can play audio and video. This phone only has Widevine L3 DRM certification, which isn’t a big deal considering its price and screen quality. Bluetooth 5, dual-band wifi, an FM radio, GPS, and USB-OTG are other features. There might not be a light sensor, but there is a barometer and a gyroscope. 

Storage & Security

The internal storage on the Infinix S5 is eMMC 5.1 storage. You will get two versions, 4/64 GB & 6/128GB. You can also able to add up to 256GB of extra storage.

The Infinix S5 has all the usual ways to log in that come with Android: PIN, Password, Pattern, Face Unlock, and Fingerprint.
